A frantic
call for help from a remote research station on
Mars sends a team of mercenary Marines into
action. Led by Sarge (The Rock) and John Grimm
a.k.a. Reaper (Karl Urban), they descend into
the Olduvai Research Station, where they find a
legion of nightmarish creatures, lurking in the
darkness, killing at will. Once there, the
Marines must use an arsenal or firepower to
carry out there mission: nothing gets out alive.
Based on the hugely popular video game, DOOM is
an explosive action-packed thrill ride!
DOOM combines just the right amount of
story, action and suspense to make for a great
if not short at around 100 minutes. But fans of
the game might enjoy this because the shorter
time means a lot more gore needs to be crammed
in to make the movie successful. Don’t worry
though; Mr. Bartkowiak (director) didn’t go
wrong. The movie begins with full on action
that involves several people
falling prey to the demon like creatures on the
Mars Research Station. A distress call from the
station brings Sarge, Reaper and their crew of
Marines on a mission to quarantine the facility,
protect and retrieve corporate property and most
importantly kill anything that isn’t human.
The Marines soon find out that everything
isn’t as it seems and these monsters aren’t as
different form us as was first thought. Oh, I
forgot to mention the massive amount of
bloodshed that ensues while the story unfolds.
The Marines are outnumbered as the “infection”
spreads, but they have an advantage: big f*ckin’
guns or BFGs as some would call them. Of course
the Marines meet with
some trouble and casualties mount. You’d think
the flashlights of the future would work, but
sadly for a few, we learn that just isn’t so.
The Marines, along with Dr. Samantha Grimm (Rosamund
Pike), learn exactly what was going on at the
Mars facility and they realize they must put
their lives on the line to make sure the problem
doesn’t get back to Earth.
The actual story line comes more into focus
at this point but don’t worry, the action only
picks up even more. An even bigger BFG becomes
part of the Marine’s arsenal and I know everyone
was looking forward to the first person segment
of the movie. This is probably the most action
packed sequence of the movie and it is a work of
gory art. There are a few twists here and there
that come unexpectedly, but being caught off
guard is one of the reasons we love DOOM so
much.
