It was a chilly 30 degree afternoon at the frozen tundra of
Triscari Field, but Mark Fitzpatrick’s hot bat sizzled even more.
He racked in a round tripper and five RBIs in just one inning to
push the Cougars over the top. Kyle Brown returned to the starting
lineup for the first time this season, and Scott Fitzpatrick pitched
a flawless eight innings on the hill.
The Bums jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, tacking
on a run off of Fitzpatrick. It wasn’t much for the Cougars to
overcome, as pitcher Scott Fitzpatrick knocked in three RBIs over
the first five innings to tie the game at 3 heading into the sixth.
It was then, first baseman Mark Fitzpatrick found the flaws in
rookie pitcher Chris Dobert. The wind went calm for a few minutes
and Dobert served up a lollipop. Fitzpatrick took advantage and
pounded a grand slam into the left field cheap seats. Later in the
inning, Fitzpatrick got another bases loaded opportunity and singled
to left for his fifth RBI of the inning.
Fitzpatrick and the Cougars held and only gave up one more run to
secure a comfortable 8-4 lead into the ninth. Captain Mike Triscari
pulled their Cy Young starter in the ninth and entered the closer,
himself, to put the Bums away. He did just that, striking out two
and putting the nail in the coffin.
The bash brothers combined, hit one homerun and eight RBIs today.
They are currently scheduled to play Brunswick on Tuesday. New
starter to the rotation, Mark Fitzpatrick will make his winter
training debut.
