Awards Set for ‘05 Season
The
2005 World Series is over. The champion has been crowned and it’s
just about time to look forward to 2006. But before we do, we’d
like to honor the great performers of this past year!
Most
Valuable Player - Many names have been taken into consideration for
this award. But all said and done, there was clearly no contest.
Mike Triscari helped his team in every way possible. He pitched a
lights out ninth almost every time, fielded well, and hit a whopping
200 homeruns (and it doesn’t even reset until July first). I think
everyone in the entire league would agree.
Final Verdict: Mike Triscari, SS/CP, Colehamer Cougars

Cy
Young - The two main people I think of when this award pops into
mind are Scott Fitzpatrick, and Matt Fischer. Fitzpatrick had
better defense, yes, but to put things plain and simple, he
dominated every hitter who stepped up against him. The bottom
line? Fitzpatrick will have to take the cake with this one.
Final Verdict: Scott Fitzpatrick, SS/SP, Colehamer Cougars

Gold
Glove - Wow. This is a tough one. A lot of people had good years
defensively. Triscari was solid, but made his share of throwing
errors. Brown was good, but needs to improve on his awareness.
Scott Fitzpatrick didn’t play enough defense, he spent most of his
time on the hill. As for other teams, Haggerty is the only
contestant. This one was a tough pick. But Mark Fitzpatrick played
very well at first, catching throws, keeping his foot on the bag,
and sacrificing his body, making outs out of balls that should have
clearly been foul.
Final Verdict: 1B - Mark Fitzpatrick, 1B/RP, Colehamer Cougars

2B -
Kyle Brown, 2B, Colehamer Cougars
SS/3B - Nick Haggerty, SS/2B/CF, Poestenkill Bums
P -
Scott Fitzpatrick, SS/SP, Colehamer Cougars
Silver Slugger - I think if you have ever been on this website
before, you could predict the winner of this award. It is no
surprise. Triscari hits home runs at will and shows no sign of
slowing down.
Final Verdict: Mike Triscari, SS/CP, Colehamer Cougars

Rolaids Reliever - The only relief pitcher, besides Mike Triscari,
who pitched well, was Mark Fitzpatrick. Triscari has been banked
for another reliever award, so the only good candidate for this
award was Colehamer setup man Mark Fitzpatrick. He recorded 13
holds for the Cougars this year, not blowing a single one. I think
that deserves some recognition.
Final Verdict: Mark Fitzpatrick, 1B/RP, Colehamer Cougars

Fireman of the Year - This one makes me laugh. The reason is
because this award was made just for closers. And Mike Triscari was
the only one who actually closed out games on a regular basis. But
even if any other team had a closer, Mike would still walk away
happy with this one. He pitched extraordinary and deserves this
award hands down.
Final Verdict: Mike Triscari, SS/CP, Colehamer Cougars
Rookie of the Year - There are usually 2 or 3 rookies playing in the
Gamerskey Wiffleball League at the start of each year. 2006 is a
toss up so far, but 2005 is definitely wrapped up by now. From the
start, Dylan Sprague ran away with it. This young man is a team
leader. He led his team in homers, and wins. Other rookies played
well, such as Jesse, and Alex Blizinski. But sorry, this one was
over before it started. Dylan Sprague, please step up to the
podium.
Final Verdict: Dylan Sprague, SS/SP, Cricket Court Killers
Base Stealer of the Year - The winner of this one got off to a
great start. Starting on July 1st, he was aggressive on the base
paths, and fast. Even Mike Triscari couldn’t keep up in steals.
Not much else to say here, so without further adu, Scott Fitzpatrick
takes the cake here.
Final Verdict: Scott Fitzpatrick, SS/SP, Colehamer Cougars
Comeback Player of the Year - This one was rather tough to decide.
Kyle Brown worked hard during the off season and started the year on
fire. Mike Hendrickson improved a lot himself, almost doubling his
homerun total from the previous year. Therefore, I give this one to
a Bum.
Final Verdict: Mike Hendrickson, SS/1B/RP, Poestenkill Bums
World Series MVP - Many would instantly think of Mike Triscari. The
Bums lost so they are out of the question. Mike Triscari and Scott
Fitzpatrick really shined this year. Though Mike got the season MVP
award, this one will go to a different Cougar. One who pitched his
heart out, winning 3 of the 4 games played. He definitely played a
huge role in the 2005 World Series of Wiffleball.
Final Verdict: Scott Fitzpatrick, SS/SP, Colehamer Cougars
