Inside
the Week of Wiffleball
*February 12-18*
Another
exciting week of GKWL action has been put to rest as we motor towards
winter break. New teams have registered, a team has changed
their name, the website has been revamped, and the Cougars pulled one
out to start the week, so lets get started on this week’s wiffleball
action.
On Sunday February 12, 2006, the Cougars and the Bums took the
field in 21 degree Fahrenheit weather. The Cougars quick start
and spectacular defense was essential to a victory. The bats
were hot as the bash brothers cranked lollipop pitches for grand
slams. The world champion Cougars now hold a five game winning
streak after a 17-4 victory in Connor Dowd’s Cougars debut. He
played flawless defense, but didn’t show too much promise at the
dish, cranking in only one RBI on the afternoon. Cougar ace,
Scott Fitzpatrick, iced a win, improving to a career record of 26-4.
A positive start to the week for the Cougars.
In other notes, the league expanded during the week from 4 teams
to 6. The Mountain View Vipers are returning as a team of nearly
all rookies. Captain Jake Pasanen returns to the wonderful world
of wiffleball, but the team lacks experience as Liam Collins, Pat
Stegemoeller, and Devon VanDervoort will all debut next week.
Also, the team formerly known as the Cricket Court Killers will now
have a new identity. Get used to the name. The Brunswick
Fighting Irish.
As the league expands, so does the schedule. League
officials have come up with a temporary schedule for July and August,
featuring a 30 game season with a July tournament, and an All Star
Game set to take place on August 19th. Some game have already
changed and will take place next week. Yep, that’s right.
The regular season will open on Thursday, February 23. The
likely matchup is Cougars vs. Fighting Irish, but nothing is set in
stone. Stay tuned for updates regarding that issue.
Seen the website lately? If not, check it out. It
has been blown up and redone over the past week. Now, standings
will appear on the homepage, player profiles are currently in the
works, and a new layout is up. We are working hard to give you
all the updates on the wiffleball universe. We will now be
updating the condition of Triscari Field. Whether to expect
gameplay or not. Check out the live weather feed to see what
precipitation is heading our way. This week was good.
Warm, and except for a few occasions, the field was dry.
Well, that about wraps it up for this week’s article on Inside
the Week of Wiffleball. Winter Training is here, and games are
being scheduled every day, so stay tuned and don’t forget to read
next week’s wiffleball insider.
