Cougars
win a Shootout to advance to a 3-0 record
New
starter, converted setup man, Mark Fitzpatrick made his first
appearance of the season. The Brunswick Fighting Irish came to
town ready to play some wiffleball. It looks like they’ve been
practicing hard at Winter Training, and it paid off as together, they
bombed 7 homers off of Cougars pitching. 5 off starter Mark
Fitzpatrick. Somehow though, the Cougars held their own and
squeezed out a 23-20 victory.
It was ugly yes, but any team will take any kid of win. It
snowed for a good portion of the game, making it hard to see the white
wiffleball. Both teams fought through it though, scoring in
every half of every inning from innings 5-9. This time, on the
Cougars side, Mike Triscari led the team cranking 3 home runs off of
Irish pitching, that would help the Cougars win. He also had a
decent 2 innings on the hill, saving the game for his 25th career
save. Good job Mike. On the Fighting Irish side, Mike
Sanchez bombed 3 homers for himself, and led his team to a near
victory.
Newcomer, Earl Turner (also known as ET) had the highest batting
average along with Scott, hitting .667. A good performance for
the both of them. Kyle Brown, in his second game back with the
Cougars hit .300 with 1 homerun and 5 RBIs. Not a bad
performance for Kyle.
In a game that showcased 43 runs scored, and four 5 run innings,
both teams have a lot to work on. Pitching needs to be better,
and fielding needs some work. Both teams will work on those
flaws and prepare for a rematch soon to come.
